Discuss what it means/looks like to be a “good citizen” in your school, in your neighborhood and to
your country. Discuss “why” this is important. Read aloud Being a Good Citizen by Mary Small.

Small Group Activity:
Divide the class into small groups and have them work on a class murals. Draw pictures which show acts of citizenship in
these settings. Students can rotate from mural to mural allowing them to contribute to each mural. Encourage students to
write/dictate sentences to support their pictures.

Concluding Activity:
Work together as a class to write a class pledge of their commitment to Citizenship.

Assessment: Teacher Observation

Extended Activities: Recite Class Pledge daily.
