The Medal of Honor Excellence in Character Education Award
Recognizing elementary, middle school, and high school educator each year for excellence in teaching the Medal of Honor Character Development Program (CDP). Each winner will receive a $5,000 prize and will be presented with the award in a special ceremony. The CDP trains educators across the country to teach the values embodied in the Medal to their students. The Excellence in Character Education Award honors teachers who inspire their students to live by the values of the Medal: courage and sacrifice, commitment and integrity, citizenship and patriotism.
The application period for the 2019 Awards has ended. Information on the 2020 Awards will be posted soon.
2019 APPLICATIONS ARE NOW CLOSED
WHO CAN APPLY
Teachers who have taught the Medal of Honor Character Development Program to their students for at least one semester are eligible to apply for the award. Those applying must fill out the online form.
Prior applicants who did not win the award are allowed to apply again. Please do note that some of the application requirements have changed from previous years.
WHAT IS THE PROCESS
Teachers can apply for the award through an online form. A panel of Medal of Honor Recipients and educators affiliated with the Character Development Program will review applications and select the winners.
Winners will be notified by August 31, 2019.
WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE APPLICATION
Basic contact information
Application essay (1,000 words or less answering the following questions)
– How were you introduced to the CDP?
– How have you used the program with your students?
– What creative approaches have you used to teach your students about the values and/or the stories of Medal of Honor Recipients and Citizen Heroes?
– What outcomes have you seen in your students?
Letter of recommendation from a peer or supervisor (500 words or less)
WHAT DO THE WINNERS RECEIVE
Those selected as winners will each receive a $5,000 prize. The award will be given in a special ceremony in Fall 2019.
